Green is emerging as the new go-to design colour, reflecting nature and wellness, and is now rivalling grey in popularity. This trend is influencing exterior choices too, with more homeowners moving away from anthracite grey toward softer, natural tones
If you follow interior design trends – or you’ve been planning your own scheme recently, you can’t have failed to notice that green is now rivalling grey as the dominant colour choice
Sage green is even being called ‘Millennial Green’ on the basis of the fact that it has become the neutral of choice for millennials in their ‘peak decorating’ years.
Green is of course associated with nature, wellness and sustainability, so aligns perfectly with millennial values. As well as being warmer than grey, it’s said to evoke feelings of calm and balance. But it’s not just sage green that is seeing a surge in popularity – other shades like olive, forest and eucalyptus are also gaining traction, along with emerald and our Welsh favourite – Monmouth green.
So how does this trend for green translate into exterior design choices – and specifically into new windows and doors?
For the past 5 years, anthracite grey – or RAL7016 as it is officially categorised - has dominated our sales charts, accounting for almost a third of window and door profile sales annually. It’s available as a standard, stock option on all our products, along with black and white, and in single or dual colour configurations (eg anthracite grey on the outside and white on the inside).
That RAL016 dominance is finally being challenged through, and we are seeing the balance shift towards lighter and more varied shades of grey, and also into green, brown and cream – very much in line with the natural themes being embraced for interiors.
AluK’s 2025 colour collection is a carefully curated range of colours and finishes which we have created in partnership with leading paint supplier Akzo Nobel. They reflect current and anticipated future trends in colours, as well as in textures and finishes.
For homeowners, there are two core AluK collections available, which we call Elements and Homestead. Because we paint all our profiles in-house in our own state of the art vertical powder coat paint facility, both come with short lead times and exceptional guarantees on quality and long term durability. A Marine grade finish is standard on all our profiles, which means they can easily withstand harsh coastal conditions and high pollution environments.
As the name suggests, the Elements collection are colours inspired by nature and here you will find Green Grey – probably the closest option we have to Millennial Green, and a darker Mid Green, as well as rich blues, creams and greys. These are all smooth, matt finishes and are ideal for more contemporary design schemes.
Homestead is arguably our more traditional collection, and this features warm colours in a fine textured, low gloss finish. Within Homestead you will find Vale Green, which is a mid-green shade and Monmouth Green which is much darker.
We really do have something in our range to suit every style of property and every design taste and you definitely don’t have to be a Millennial to choose one!
